L2P Program In The News – "Driving and Thriving"

An article about the MMLLEN L2P Program was recently in the local newspaper which goes into detail about a participant of the program recently getting his probationary licence.

Congratulations to Deon Cheeseman who is pictured with local driving mentor Hope Patty from Swan Hill YouthInc on passing his driving test and now gaining his P Plates!

“I really recommend the L2P Program for anyone who does not have access to a car or licensed driver while on their L-plates, because the results can literally be life-changing.

The L2P Program is free and provides mentor drivers to sit beside learners while they achieve the required 120 hours of driving. New mentors are keenly sought after and always welcomed to further assist young people like Deon in breaking barriers and gaining their independence.

Are you interested in making a difference in the life of a young person and contributing to your community by helping a young person take their next steps toward independence!? Consider becoming a volunteer mentor!

crossborder

Cross-border Future Workforce Forum

Our Executive Officer Deb attended the Cross-border Future Workforce Forum in Euston.

There was over 120 attendees from department, local government, education and training and industry from both NSW and VIC on the day to develop a shared understanding of cross-border workforce and skills development, key challenges and opportunities; this involved connecting existing and emerging industries with regional stakeholders to explore local workforce solutions.

cuc

Attendees worked together to shape key directions for a Cross-border Workforce Roadmap to guide shared action on the development of a skilled cross border workforce for the irrigated horticulture, critical minerals and renewable energy sectors.

The forum was supported by The Regional Australia Institute, NSW Government, Victoria State Government, Robinvale Euston Workforce Network, Regional Partnerships Mallee and Regional Development Australia.

The Swan Hill Country University Centre (CUC Mallee) is now completed which is very exciting for our local community to access a local hub!

The Country Universities Centre (CUC) was established in 2013 in Cooma, NSW. It has now grown to a network of 18 community owned and operated centres across regional NSW, Queensland and Victoria that provide equitable access to higher education for regional people without the need to leave their community.

The CUC currently supports over 2000 students studying at 41 different Australian universities and is supported by the Australian Government Regional University Centre Program.

Evidence shows that community-led higher education widens participation across multiple equity groups and supports students to study and graduate in regional Australia.

The evidence for the establishment of a centre was identified in 2005 by the Mid Murray Higher Education Working Party established by the Murray Mallee LLEN. A report was prepared (Webb Report) to identify the options for a model to provide increased education opportunity for the residents of the Central Murray region.

Visit from CUC Mallee Centre Manager – Hayden Hogan

Our MMLLEN staff welcomed a visit from Hayden from the Swan Hill Country University Centre (CUC Mallee) to give us an overview of what the new hub will look like and how this will be beneficial for our region!

The establishment of a CUC in the Swan Hill region would help address the needs of aspiring local students and those who wish to upskill their qualifications, who face unique higher eduation challenges, with the closest University being in Bendigo.

The CUC Mallee will assist in bridging the educational gap that exists in rural and regional communities; furthermore, it will also help build community capacity, increase the number of local tertiary trained professionals, and assist with workforce development of our local business and industry groups.

If you would like to see what the Centre has to offer, please contact Centre Manager Hayden on 0400 332 930 or hayden.hogan@cucmallee.edu.au to arrange a tour.
